The Gift of Life: Why I Stand Against

Grade 12 - Sartre

Life is a precious gift — something we cannot create on our own and something we should never take away. Every human being, no matter how small or how they began, has a purpose and deserves a chance to live. This is why I firmly stand against abortion. To me, it is not simply a medical decision; it is the taking of an innocent life. I believe that every human life is sacred and must be valued, that abortion leaves deep and lasting emotional scars, and that an unborn child already has the right to life and protection.

First, I believe in the principle of the sanctity of human life. Even if a child is conceived through tragic circumstances like rape, that child should not be punished for something they did not choose. Their life is still valuable and meaningful. No one — not even the mother — has the right to end their life. Only has the authority to give and take life. From the moment of conception, that tiny beating heart already carries the spark of humanity. Taking it away disregards the truth that every human being, no matter how they came to be, has a right to live and fulfill their purpose.

Second, choosing abortion can leave a mother with deep emotional wounds that may never fully heal. Many women who undergo abortion later carry guilt, sadness, and regret throughout their lives. They may find themselves wondering who their child could have been or how old they would be if they had been allowed to live. This emotional burden can lead to depression, anxiety, and difficulty forming bonds with future children. While abortion might seem like a quick solution to a difficult situation, it can create lifelong emotional pain that silently lingers long after the procedure is over.

Lastly, I believe that unborn children already have the right to live. Inside their mother’s womb, they are not just “potential” lives — they are living human beings with their own beating hearts and growing bodies. They are innocent and undeserving of harm. They deserve the chance to be born, to be loved, and to see the beauty of the world. Every child has the right to experience the wonders of life, to laugh, to learn, and to dream. Denying them this opportunity is denying them their most basic human right: the right to life.

In the end, abortion is not just a choice about a woman’s body — it is also a choice about another human life. Every life has value, every life has purpose, and every life deserves protection. Instead of ending a life, we must offer support, compassion, and hope to mothers facing difficult pregnancies. By choosing life, we honor the dignity of every human being and embrace the truth that life, no matter how small, is always worth protecting.
